Destination Kenya
The parks of Samburu, Shaba and Buffalo Springs focus around Ewaso Nyiro and provide a sanctuary for the region’s game. Despite the remoteness of the area, it does get surprisingly busy in parts, however there are a couple of stunning lodges in Samburu away from the crowds. Melting waters of Mount Kenya feed rivers which support a surprising array of wildlife. This region is known for its elephants and the endangered Grevy's zebra. This samburu safari by air will cut down the long hours of driving from Nairobi to samburu which is usually around 5-6 hours of driving. The reserve covers an area of 165 Km² and is located around 345Km from Nairobi.
Begin your samburu safari by air vacation from Wilson Airport, Nairobi, where you board your flight to Samburu, a semi-desert region in the remote frontier district. On arrival you will check in at your camp or lodge, the your afternoon game viewing drive will begin from around 16:00hrs. The wild-arid expanses of Samburu are quite conducive to game drives, the area is not widely visited by the majority of tourists due to its remoteness. As a result, you feel a true sense of isolation and “oneness” with nature especially when on game viewing drives. Dinner and overnight followed after return to camp or lodge at 18:00hrs.
Begin this day with early morning drives at 06.00am followed by breakfast at 08.00am. There is usually a break until 16:00hrs when the temperatures have cooled down. Since Samburu is known for its very high temperatures and dryness. For a little extra exclusive game viewing activities can be arranged in both Samburu National Reserve and the nearby Buffalo Springs National Reserve. Drives are scheduled each day in the morning and afternoon, we can also make special arrangements for half-day game drives that include a bush breakfast before returning to camp to escape the mid-day heat. The surreal geologic features and the exquisite wildlife presence make Samburu an absolute paradise for photographers, amateurs and professionals alike.
Depending on your flight arrangements your Samburu safari by air will end with a sumptuous breakfast before boarding a flight to Nairobi's Wilson Airport, for your onward travel arrangements.
